"I first checked out Mel Johnson last December at the Martini Club in Midtown Atlanta. This brother laid down a set that was so crunk. He delivered some covers of Teddy Pendergrass, Mavin Gaye, and ended the set with Cameo. Can you imagine! All I got to say is WATCH OUT FOR MEL JOHNSON...HE AIN'T NO JOKE."

Mel Johnson is a naturally talented artist - he writes, he produces, he sings, he entertains. His soulful collage of funk, soul, and R&B flavored rhythms makes the statement that one should live life with no regrets. Mel speaks directly to the heart. While Mel's music may be considered society-friendly and intellectually profound, he provides enough musical variety to appeal to the player, ballers, and shot-callers.

Growing up as a teenager in southwest Atlanta, Mel began experimenting with music by singing in school plays, as well as, studying the techniques of a diverse range of artists like Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Teddy Pendergrass, and George Clinton.

As he matured with age, so did his voice and his ability to compose music. Now, with over a decade of experience under his belt, Mel emerges as a socially conscious soul sensation that lifts the spirits and opens the minds to whomever comes in contact with his melodic poetry. "I've got a little something for everyone", explains Mel. Being a multidimensional artist is what makes this twenty-something prodigy a unique act in such a cookie cutter market. His innovative approach to coupling complex but soul stirring subject matter with great depth and clarity along side intoxicating instrument-heavy beats, is what sets him apart from other R&B contenders.

The South is known for its bass-bottom rhythms concocted in basement-turned studios and get crunk chant anthems, but Mel insists that there has to be a greater meaning in lyrical content. "There has to be a message in you music", explains Mel Johnson, "The key is figuring out how to make the message enjoyable and easy to receive. Nobody wants to be bashed over the head with vulgar lyrics and harsh beats." Mel believes there is something spiritual about possessing the talent to infuse sensuality into music. And like his debut effort shows, its not just the vocals that make the music, its living in a space where the finished product catalyzes a new experience every time it's heard.
